A draw against RFS in the home finale

31 October 2022

In the game of the 34th round of the Optibet Virsliga, Valmiera FC played a draw (1:1) against the FK RFS team in the last home game of the season.

At the beginning of the match, football was a bit cautious, but RFS worked more with the ball. Valmiera’s team also showed initiative, acting according to the coach’s plan. In the 15th minute of the game, an accident happened on the pitch, which changed the entire course of the game – two players from both teams collided in the air and needed medical help after the incident. Pape Yare Fall suffered the most in this situation, to whom the referee gave a red card.

Jurgis Kalns made a strategic change, as the team remained in the minority – Emils Birka went on the pitch to replace Djibril Gueye. Although outnumbered, our team continued to battle on the pitch as the game continued to be very emotional and full of fouls.

In the 27th minute of the game, the result of the match was revealed and the stands of the Valmiera Olympic Center cheered – Camilo Mena made a great press, took advantage of the goalkeeper’s mistake, got to the ball, and, running past Pavels Steinbors, made it 1:0 in favor of Valmiera FC. We were in the lead after halftime.

In the second half, the visitors changed their game plan, allowing their tall players to go into the box while countless crosses were used in the hope of breaking down our defense. Rihards Matrevics was sensational in goal, catching everything that came his way. The defenders also supported the goalkeeper, who cleaned the penalty area from both opponents and balls.

The team was just a little short of celebrating their second victory this season when they played with ten men on the pitch. In the first minute of the compensation time of the second half, however, Alfusainey Jatta took advantage of the situation in which Elvis Stuglis found his teammate, who had to hit the ball into the goal from three meters to reach the final score of the game – 1:1.

Our next game will be played on Sunday (06.11) when the team will head to Salaspils to play against SK Super Nova team.
