On Friday, January 14th the Latvian Football Federation Awards event was held at the Splendid Palace – the most luxurious cinema in Baltics. A night that turned out quite successful for the Valmiera FC organization and players.
Raimonds Krollis and Rihards Matrevics attended the event in person and were the ones that took home notable prizes.
Krollis took the stage on multiple occasions – the first award of the night for him was the ‘’Best Young Player’’ award named after Latvian football legend Ilmars Liepins.
‘’I’m really happy to receive the award for the second time in a row. I’d like to thank everyone that believes in me and I’d also like to thank everyone that doesn’t. Without you, all this wouldn’t be possible.’’ Valmiera FC captain said after stepping on the stage for the first time.
He also took home Optibet Virsliga’s nomination as the league’s best forward. The night didn’t stop for him as Krollis was also named as part of the symbolic selection squad as one of two forwards alongside Leonel Wamba of FK Spartaks.
Rihards Matrevics was also a part of the event in which he managed to be named as the best goalie of Optibet Virsliga beating Riga FC’s Roberts Ozols.
Our goalie was also given the chance to speak and address the crowd and those that were watching at home: ‘’I want to take this opportunity to thank my parents, my mom, and dad. The people that know me already also know that they have been with me every step of the way – attending all of my games. Even right now they travel to matches to see me play. In the new season together with Valmiera FC, we will try to take a step further and I myself won’t stop here.’’
Just like his teammate Rihards was also named to the symbolic selection squad of Virsliga. He was joined by another teammate – Alvis Jaunzems who received the honors as one of the four best defenders alongside Roberts Savalnieks (RFS), Ziga Lipuscek (RFS and Vitalijs Jagodinskis (RFS).
In the media nominations group, in competition with “Futbolbumbas TV” and “Pa Pāris Kausiem” a surprise victory was taken by our team – Valmiera FC was named as the winner of the ‘’Award for promoting the game of football in the digital environment.’’
