Following an Optibet Virsliga, 20th round loss against FK Jurmalas Spartaks (1:2) Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns shared his comments and thoughts with the media.
Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns: ”We went into the dressing room, made the circle and I thanked the team for the 15 victories that we got. We knew that everyone now would be against us because for people it is very important to keep the intrigue in the championship. There will be games like these and the young players have to understand that when each of the teams we will play against will get a feeling that they can clutch, they will do so. I can take my hat off for Spartaks. The first half didn’t work at all for us and was weak. Of course, we scored the goal but the game ran its course and it was only a matter of time before the opponent would bring the equalizer. In the second half, we stepped on the pitch looking more like the Valmiera team, more like ourselves. We pressed the opponent and we went for the victory because of course the record, an achievement that has never happened before was truly a pressure. And then we swallowed one more and our winning streak came to an end. We still have like 15 games and there is no reason why we couldn’t win those games. It’s football – if we would win everything it wouldn’t be interesting for anyone. In the 70th minute, I saw how the eyes of Spartaks players were lit up, how they felt that they can get the victory. They fought with compassion and we have to be ready that other teams will play like that as well.”
