Following an Optibet Virsliga 11th-round win against SK Super Nova (3:1) Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns shared his comments and thoughts with the media.
Valmiera FC head coach Jurģis Kalns: “The first game of this season in this stadium. Playing in Dalins is always special. Last season we won against Auda in the opening game, and we won today as well. Thanks to everyone who came, you were heard. We started the game very well, even after the second goal we continued to move, we looked for open areas very well. We controlled the game, not allowing the Super Nova team to create anything. Towards the end of the first half, the discipline of the game disappeared, and the opponent allowed us to do whatever we wanted, maybe that’s why thoughts crept in that everyone individually wanted to score a goal. There was a slight relaxation, the opponent tried to respond, to run in counterattacks, but the defenders worked very well there. Of course, their efforts had to be suppressed already in the middle zone or on the opponent’s side of the field. Unfortunately, after the first half, we didn’t succeed, we managed to score the third goal as well, it could have been the fourth. The ball flies between the goalkeeper and the defenders, but no one puts a foot on it. Last year, Krollis scored a lot of such goals from Jaunzem’s passes. You have to jump there, grab the ball and take it to the goal, we don’t have the smell of attackers yet, many have to find him.”
