Following an Optibet Virsliga, a 2nd-round loss against FK Liepaja (0:0) Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns shared his comments and thoughts with the media.
Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns: “Complete dominance, I can’t say anything more. It was difficult to prepare for this game because we didn’t know who Liepāja was, or who the names and players were. Liepāja played completely differently during the camp. I had expected much more from my opponent. At first, it felt like there was still snow on the pitch. We knew the coach and expected the kind of football we all watched. There will be duels, the ball will be pushed forward, so we didn’t get any pressing. That’s how it happened, the goal was conceded because of your own mistake. It’s good that we allowed a goal today because we knew it would happen at some point. We played on the edge of risk. The saddest thing, however, is the zero goals scored in two games. This team needs time to gain the confidence that they too can score goals. We lacked the finishing touch in the second half, with one goal we need to open the bag for us to start pouring in. We can be partially satisfied with the performance. This year is not the best start either. We congratulate the opponent with three points.”
