Following an Optibet Virsliga twelth-round victory against BFC Daugavpils (1:0) teams head coach Jurgis Kalns shared his thoughts with the media.
Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns: ”Our expectations are so high that after eight victories in a row and the fourth one we haven’t conceded a goal we all stepped into the dressing room and thought that something had happened. Nothing has happened, we have three points. We have had a really good tempo, those 3:0, 3:0, 2:0, 5:1 results and now we got 1:0 against Daugavpils, it felt like we lost three points but that is not the case. When I walked to the press conference somebody told me that the team, these young guys haven’t been in this situation. One thing is to battle for the championship title until the very end but another is when you have so many wins – eight in a row and we have beat the big teams. We haven’t been in a position where we have to think about what to do in the next game – sixth, seventh, eighth win a row, what emotions are needed to play, how to outplay the opponent. Thank you to the guys who fought till the very end. Maybe in the end there we got lucky but luck only helps the strongest side Three points have been registered in the standings and we have to prepare for our next matches. Nothing has happened, a win is a win. If we compare Daugavpils to Valmiera then the number of import players is equal. They have very good quality imports and because of that, I think that they will be able to bite many of the teams, even the top ones. We have nothing to complain about in regards to the 1:0 result, it’s a victory and three points. We have our plan and we knew that the game would be hard physically and mentally. Our plan isn’t a short-term one instead, it’s with a long-term vision. The most important games are ahead of us and with games like this one, we are preparing for them.”
