Fifteen is a number on which our winning streak has ended. In the 20th round of Optibet Virsliga with a score of 1:2, we lost against FK Spartaks Jurmala.
From the early minutes, it was clear that the match wouldn’t be easy – hot weather conditions and the opponent that had arrived with a goal to steal points from the leaders. From the very start, the visitor side went on to look for opportunities on the offensive end. Daniels Balodis had to block an early attempt, and Rihards Matrevics had to make multiple vital saves.
As hard as the opponent would attack, the word was given to Alvis Jaunzems who swiftly sent the ball into the goal from around 17 meters after a cross from the corner. The score all of a sudden became 1:0 but the opponents didn’t take long to send an answer. A raid by Kwadwo Asamoah and a kick into the close side of the net meant a tie after the first forty-five.
In the second half, Valmiera’s side came out confident and very hard working in order to find yet another go-ahead goal. The first excellent chance was had by Daniels Balodis, who tried to head the ball into the net after a cross from the corner but it squeaked over the net. Spartaks defender blocked two impossible scoring chances just a minute apart.
If you don’t score, they score – a saying that proved to be right. After the uncountable amount of scoring opportunities, Asamoah once again upset the fans at the Dalina Stadium sending the ball past Matrevics for the second time in the match thus ending the 15-game winning streak of Valmiera FC as the game ended with a score of 1:2.
Our next game will be played on Sunday (10.07) when at the Skonto Stadium we will be meeting with Riga FC to begin our Latvian Cup campaign.
