In the ninth round of Optibet Virsliga, Valmiera FC finished the first lap of the tournament with a successful victory (3:0) against FK Liepaja.
The game began in a rather nervous manner with both teams searching for scoring chances. As it was seen on the pitch the home side attacked more – many highlight chances that were stopped by Krisjanis Zviedris. Valmiera’s charge was led by Kamilo Mena who just like a rocket flew on to attack. Raimonds Krollis and Maksims Tonisevs also had a few opportunities. Rihards Matrevics also had to get involved on his side of the pitch.
The edgy first half sent a message that neither side would compromise as emotions flew from one side to the other. Unfortunately just as the half-time approached Ivan Zhelizko couldn’t continue playing and had to be substituted by Djibril Gueye who stepped on the pitch to begin the second half.
Valmiera attacked with high danger so that the visiting team could stay alive with only huge efforts defensively. The turning point came in the 68th minute of the game when after a pass by Daisuke Yokota, Camilo Mena beat the goalkeeper for the first time in the match.
Jurgis Kalns drew a joker card when he substituted Raimonds Krollis for Alioune Ndoye in the 77th minute of the match who exactly a minute later received the ball from Mena on the goal line and finished off the sequence that doubled the score – 2:0.
For Mena the game was over as he was replaced by Luka Silagadze and to surprise nobody – he was there to put an end to the game. Djibril Gueye sent the ball to Luka who with exceptional three steps placed himself in a position to shoot and the goalie couldn’t do a thing about it – 3:0.
Our next game of the season will be played on Sunday (01.05) when at home we will host the Riga FC team to begin the second lap of the season.
