Valmiera FC used the international break to play a test match against SK Super Nova Salaspils. The game was played away as the opponents took on hosting duties. Two goals by the home side gave the visitors a loss with a score of 0:2.
The match was delayed due to issues with referees, but the game could get underway once things were sorted. The opening minutes of the half were played in a fast-paced manner. Neither side sat back or waited for anything. Super Nova appeared to have a slight edge as their attacks resulted in corner situations or forced Carlos Olsess to get involved. Valmiera FC and their attacks did show capabilities – however, not good enough for a goal.
Super Nova’s goalkeeper managed to make key saves for the opponent, while other scoring chances were missed as the ball would often sneak past the goal. In the 32nd minute of the match, an 11-meter-penalty kick was appointed to our goal. Olses did manage to guess the correct side, but the save was short-cut and the score became 0:1.
The second half didn’t change a massive amount, yet a quick goal from our error and Kristers Lusins gathering the second one for Super Nova meant that we would be down by two and forced to look for a way to get back into it. Plenty of attempts were forced but even after making substitutions – nothing changed and the goal wouldn’t be unlocked, thus Valmiera suffering a loss.
The Optibet Virsliga will re-start this weekend and our next game will be played on Sunday (02.04) when we will be visiting FK Auda at the Mezaparks Sports Village.
