In the 25th round of the Tonybet Virsliga, Valmiera FC visited Jelgava, where they defeated FS Jelgava 4:0 in the stadium named after Jānis Lūsis.
Gatis Kalnin’s team demonstrated its favorite status at the start of the game by regularly threatening Jelgava’s goal defended by Valmiera’s former goalkeeper Vyacheslav Kudryavtsev. Jelgava’s defense was also in high readiness to stifle the opponents.
A two-game goalless drought was only brought to an end at the very end of the first half. Alioune Ndoye navigated well in the opponent’s penalty area, scoring his twelfth goal in this tournament.
After making several player changes in the second half, Valmiera managed to knock out Jelgava, but only in the very last ten minutes of the game. Jason Bahamboula was in the right place to score an easy goal. After a corner kick by Lukass Vapne, Ndoye sent the ball in with the header for the second time in the game. And at the very end of the game, the persistent Vapne was only rewarded with a scored goal.
More deserved than a successful victory away from home.
In the next round of the tournament, we return home, where we host BFC Daugavpils in the Janis Dalins Stadium on August 11 (4:00 p.m.).
