In the game of the 30th round of the Optibet Virsliga, Valmiera FC played away in Daugavpils at the Esplanade stadium, which ended in a draw (1:1) against the BFC Daugavpils team.
After coming to Daugavpils, it was noticeable that the team has traveled a long way, while the opponent showed a careful game. There were no particularly dangerous moments in the opening minutes of the match, careful football, from one side of the pitch to the other. The first goal of the game arrived in the 38th minute when Raimonds Krollis sent the ball into the net following a corner-kick.
After the breached defense, Daugavpils were now forced to think about an attack, which could have cost them another conceded goal – Camilo Mena tried to pass to Krollis at the penalty area, who went forward, but Luka Silagadze was the first to get to the ball, the goalkeeper was beaten, but an off-side was blown.
The home team could be happy during the added time of the first half – a free kick from a distance, followed by a cross in the penalty area and Akintola took advantage of Rihards Matrevics mistake, sending the ball into the goal with his head.
In the second half, the players of Valmiera FC came out hungry, went forward, and already at the beginning of the half, Djibril Gueye had an excellent opportunity, which remained unused. Confident control of the ball for most of the half, while managing to break into the penalty area only rarely. The BFC Daugavpils team had organized its defense line and aimed only at counterattacks.
In the 77th minute of the game, after a free-kick, the ball found its way into the goal for the second time in the match, but the referee decided not to count the goal, because our captain was in an off-side position and, although he did not touch the ball, he prevented the goalkeeper from doing his job. At the end of the match, there was a lot of pressure, but not enough to win.
