Big win coming from behind

15 June 2021

After a long break, championship games resumed last weekend. Valmiera FC get through with a lucky victory (2:1) over BFC Daugavpils on away game on Sunday.

Tamaz Pertia had to do without the three key players, the injured Daisuke Yokota, Djibril Gueye and Pape Yare Fall. In the starting lineup chances to prove themselves was given to Maksims Tonisevs, Eriks Punculs and Victor Diagne, trio who has played not so much thus far this season.

We played the game against the 4 th place neighbours of the tournament table with a big dominance in ball possession (61% against 34%). We were also superior in many other components, but for the sake of justice we lost in one of the most important – challenges won (49% versus 51%).

The chances of scoring for Pertia’s men, despite their dominance, until the final quarter of the game was really little. The accuracy at the end of the attacks hobbled a little.

As a cold shower came the goal scored by opponents in the 76 th minute, when a host’s striker Raivis Kirss sent the ball into the Matrevics goal from close distance with the second try. The Daugavpils players had not even been able to take a breath, when score changed 2:1 in favor to Valmiera. In the 78 th minute, after Ivan Zhelizko’s cross from corner kick, the team’s captain Raimonds Krolis appeared to be the most agile in front of the goal, thereby capturing his sixth goal this season. Three minutes later, after a good run with a ball by Mootez Zaddem on the right side and following cross, a good shot slightly outside the penalty area, but just in front of the goal, was performed by Zehlizko, the ball accurately found a place in the lower corner of the empty goal — 2: 1. It was the first goal scored by Ukrainian midfielder this season.

The hosts were unable to answer in the dying minutes of the game, and Valmiera FC took a very important three points back home. In this round, the two of our counterparts in the fight for the Champions title, RFS and Riga FC, were also winning.

In the next round at home on 17 June 18:00 We will host FK Metta at the Olympic Centre in Valmiera.
