In the 12th round of Optibet Virsliga, the Valmiera FC team at home managed to beat BFC Daugavpils with a score of 1:0. The only goal was scored by team captain Raimonds Krollis.
The game began with Valmiera FC’s instant attack when Kamilo Mena broke into the penalty area and tried to give a quick pass to Krollis who was going to the net, however, the pass wasn’t successful. Already a minute late Valmiera fans could cheer for a moment because the goalie was beaten for the first time in the match, sadly it didn’t count due to an off-side.
Later on, BFC Daugavpils found their own counterattacks which allowed Vjaceslavs Kudrjavcevs to get involved in the game to stop the ball. In the 21st minute of the game, the first goal was scored. Krollis found Mena in the middle of the pitch who quickly gave the pass back cutting away two opposing players, Krollis tried to pass to Djibril Gueye, but that didn’t work but the ball quickly found its place on the captain’s leg and he made no mistake this time around – the ball was in the net for a very important goal.
BFC Daugavpils had their rare opportunities to finish off the first half. In the second half of the game, the home team started better, with many dangerous free-kicks and corners but the opponent survived. Step by step the thread of the match went in favor of the visiting side as they went on to look for the equalizer.
In the 85th minute, Kudrjavcevs had to make another important save. The score of the match remained unchanged despite two situations where either side could score – first Gueye missed an opportunity with an empty net as BFC Daugavpils followed up with a shot from a distance that hit the cross-bar. The final whistle gave Valmiera FC their three points and eighth victory in a row.
Our next game will be played on Sunday (15.05) when at the Hanzas Highschool pitch we will be paying a visit to the FK Metta team.
