Finally an away victory against Daugavpils

1 June 2024

Valmiera FC vs. BFC Daugavpils – the country’s second-largest city celebrated its birthday, but the Vidzeme team decided to spoil the celebration a little. A convincing, beautiful victory in the 17th round match of the Tonybet Virsliga, for the first time since 2021 three points were transferred home from this city, and the game ended with 6:1.

In the first seconds of the game, a lightning attack, a little disappointment. There was a chance to score a goal right at the beginning of the game. Despite the attacks from both teams, the Valmieria controlled the game, which helped to score a quick goal. A long pass from Djibril Gueye, Jeremy Porsan-Clemente on the ball, and Frenks Orols beaten from close range.

Perhaps the team was happy because a few minutes later a draw was returned. A failed throw-in saw Lawrence Ugen find Abdulkader Traore. A kick followed, where goalkeeper Davis Oss was powerless – the ball flew between his legs and into the goal. A regrettable episode that could have been done without.

The carnival of the first half was far from over. Again only a few minutes apart and another goal is scored. This time, after a corner kick, Lukass Vapne crossed the ball into the penalty area, where Niks Sliede was parked in front of the goal. Our tall central defender focused and changed the flight trajectory of the ball – Orols was beaten again.

A sea of moments, several shots, and eventually the third goal came. Jeremy walked into the penalty area, he had the option to take a shot, but the angle was such that it would be difficult to hit the target. An excellent decision followed to give a pass to the other side of the penalty area, where Alioune Ndoye made a shot. The first attempt was narrowly saved, but the second chance was fatal.

At the end of the half, another moment where the attack started from the own side of the field. Sliede passed the ball to Emils Birka, who quickly found Ndoye and started his sprint into the penalty area. The Senegalese unerringly returned the ball to Birka, who, now behind the opponent’s defenders, single-handedly dealt with the young goalkeeper of Daugavpils.

Renars Varslavans scored to make a mark for halftime – again Birka with a great pass, the midfielder received the ball in the penalty area. He had to turn and find a comfortable position, but the blow was fatal and harsh. No chance to save and after half-time 5:1.

For the second half, the guys came out with the confidence that three points were in the pocket, maybe it created some opportunities for the opponents, but in the end, the game was back in Valmiera’s hands and they missed a few opportunities to score a goal. In the second half, one was earned. In the 73rd minute, Ingars Pulis managed to get one –  he stood alone, receiving a pass in front of the goal, with no difficulty beating the goalkeeper.

We will play our next game in the Tonybet Virsliga after the national team break – on June 14 at the Janis Dalins Stadium, hosting the FK Tukums 2000/Telms team.
