First win of the season

On Friday Valmiera FC hosted FK Spartaks Jurmala at the Valmiera Olympic Center. Camilo Mena scored a hat-trick and Raimonds Krollis added his first of the season to bring a convincing 4:1 victory.

The first half began with rather careful football, yet Valmiera controlled it more. It wasn’t a long wait before the first goal of the game was scored – Daisuke Yokota sent off Camilo Mena who put the ball past the goalkeeper. 21 minutes later after an amazing cross by Alvis Jaunzems, team captain Raimonds Krollis doubled the lead. In the 28th minute of the match, Mena got himself another one. Undisciplined game by the opponents gave them two yellow cards to finish off the half.

The second half of the game arrived with substitutions – Emils Birka was swapped for Maksims Tonisevs. The opponents played better from the get-go which led to a goal against – maestro Olegs Laizans put the ball past Matrevics with a shot from a long distance. Camilo Mena didn’t leave any breathing room for Spartaks as he sorted himself a hat-trick which led to the end result 4:1. In the remainder of the game, both teams continued subbing players, and the Valmiera team attacked in high passion but the result remained unchanged. The first victory of the season was earned in front of the home crowd.

The next official game will be played in two weeks against BFC Daugavpils as Optibet Virsliga heads into an international break.
