On matchday 7 of Optibet Virsliga, Valmiera FC traveled to Jelgava, where a duel was played against the local FS Jelgava team. Leo Gaucho scored three goals, and Kristers Penkevics returned to the Virsliga – in the end, three points were collected in a victory with the score of 3:0.
Although the visitors’ fortress, the ball belonged to Valmiera in this game – from the first minutes many attacks, few dangerous situations. Jelgava tried to keep up, responding with counterattacks. Maksims Tonisevs shot from a distance, his shot might have gone over, but Vjaceslavs Kudrjavcevs caught the ball. Some other opportunities were passed, but they did not yield results.
Like lightning from a clear sky, Jeremy Porsan-Clemente’s masterful movement of the ball towards the front of the goal came – the ball went to Gaucho, who was left alone in front of the goal, there without a mistake and confidently hit the ball into the goal net, putting the guests in the lead. At first, they didn’t believe it had happened, because the celebration started late. Moments later, a potential penalty kick on our goal, but the referee’s decision was strong – let’s continue the game.
Although in the lead after the first half, there were complaints, but they were quickly erased. Back on the starting line Jeremy was on yet another attack, but his attempt was blocked. The taste of the goal was felt again in the 50th minute of the game when Djibril Gueye directed the ball to the Brazilian Gaucho in one touch, who without hesitation scored his second goal of the game – the ball was first processed with his chest and then hit into the goal rectangle.
In the 62nd minute of the game, Jason Bahamboula went on the pitch as a substitute, who has the status of a reserve for now, but it is quite effective. The Frenchman who entered the field tricked the opponent, was knocked down, and forced Latvia’s most experienced referee to award an 11-meter penalty. After a discussion, Gaucho took the ball and netted his third of the game.
In the remaining part of the game, the course did not change, Valmiera FC continued to create attacks, while Jelgava aimed at counterattacks. The most significant moment in the remaining part of this duel was the arrival of Kristers Penkevics – after a year and a half missed, the player returned to the Virsliga, helping the team win three points in the standings.
