6 May 2022

In the 11th round of the Optibet Virsliga, away, in LNK Sports Park with the result of 2:0, the Valmiera FC team managed to beat the Jurmala Spartaks team.

From the start of the match, it was clear that this game would not be a walk in the park, no matter what the tournament table showed. Despite the large dominance of Valmiera’s players at the start of the game, the Spartaks team did not owe an answer, forcing Rihards Matrevics to take part in the game action, while 17-year-old Dāvis Veisbuks played perfectly in the opponents’ goal.

The first goal of the game was celebrated in the 27th minute when there was chaos in the penalty area and after several hits by Valmiera FC players, Emīls Birka found a completely free captain of the team Raimondu Krollis, who made no mistake sending the ball into the net to give his team a well deserved 1:0 lead.

At the beginning of the second half, Jurgis Kalns made the first change in the team – Maksims Toņisevs took the place on the pitch to replace Alvis Jaunzems, Tonisevs tried to play the first violin on the right side of the field throughout the second half. Meanwhile, the opponent came on the pitch being sure that this fight was not over, and took the reins into their hands.

The tempo of the game was controlled by the home team which gave the visitor’s side a mandatory defensive course, goalkeeper Matrevics also had his fair share of jobs to do. In one episode he made an error that gave an unbelievably easy chance to level the game for the opponents, but luckily the ball slid past an empty goal.

The super moment also on the other end – Alioune Ndoye’s solo raid after which the goal seemed to have been scored, but no – the goalkeeper was defeated, but the ball was kicked off the goal-line by the #21 of Spartaks – Kristers Atars.

If Ndoye couldn’t finish his first sequence then he still had the last words to say and he said them well – after a corner kick the ball looked for a place to be and Ndoye assured that its only place would be in the net to make it 2:0 and register the score that was the final one after the whistle that marked the end of the game.
