Hat-trick for Sow, poker for Krollis

19 August 2021

In another away game of the Optibet futbola Virsliga, we won FK Metta with 4:0, thereby continuing the race for the Latvian Champions title.

This was the most compelling victory of the season by Tamaz Pertia’s coached footballers. It was just two minutes in the game when Ibrahima Sow scored the opening goal after a great play with team captain Raimonds Krollis. The cooperation between Senegalese and Latvian was once again completed in less than seven minutes, this time Sow struck accurately with his head after a good cross from Krollis.

Valmiera FC dominated entirely during the first half-time. In the midfield, the Japanese duo Daisuke Yokota and Masaki Murata performed greatly, also Ukrainian box-to-box midfielder Ivan Zhelizko was on top form. Attacks with lightning raids were supported by both flanks – Alvis Jaunzems and Maksims Tonisevs. But the attacking trio — Sow, Krollis, and Alioune Ndoye — were just unstoppable this evening.

In the 38th minute of the game, Ndoye scored his third goal of the season followed by the third assist from Krollis. Just before the half-time break Krollis performed the fourth assist and Sow made no mistake in front of goal allowing him to celebrate his first hat-trick in Valmiera’s shirt.

Starting the second half-time, after nearly three months while injured Pape Yare Fall came on in place of Tonisevs. Later, four more fresh footballers were involved in the game. Football became even more open and more interesting to spectators. The “hottest” goalkeeper of Latvia, Rihards Matrevics, also had several opportunities to prove himself. Despite several great opportunities for both teams to score, the changes to the game board did not follow, and the game ended with more than a convincing victory for Valmiera, which enabled the team to return to the tournament table in the leadership position.

Latvian Cup quarterfinal is up next – on 22 August (at 18:00) we will meet with FK Dinamo Riga at the Olympic Centre in Valmiera.
