High-scoring affair against Super Nova

6 November 2022

Valmiera FC earned an important and convincing victory (6:1) against the SK Super Nova Salaspils team in the 35th round of the Optibet Virsliga.

The introduction of the match was rather nervous, as the home team started the game on their own terms – most of the time they attacked dangerously. In the 13th minute of the game, our Rihards Matrevics showcased his capabilities for the first time and saved the team from a potential goal loss after a corner kick.

Step by step, however, Valmiera FC was able to take over the reins of the match – the first chance for Raimonds Krollis, whose shot was saved by the opponent’s goalkeeper. Ten minutes later, our captain recovered and headed the ball into the goal after a cross. Immediately after that – in the next attack, in which Krollis was again accurate, he worked perfectly in front of the goal and sent the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

At the end of the first half, Raimonds had several more opportunities, one hit the post, and the other was blocked by the goalkeeper. For the second half, the team came out even more motivated, and immediately there were celebrations on the pitch – Camilo Mena went to the penalty area, where Daisuke Yokota was the first to hit the ball into the goal after the rebound.

In the 48th minute of the game, another dangerous attack, again the ball bounces to our player, and this time Ivan Zhelizko made a strong shot from the edge of the penalty area. At first, it seemed that the goalkeeper saved it, but his own technical mistake and the ball ended up in the goal.

Around the 50th minute, Super Nova made a threatening attack, after which the ball hit the goalpost. No matter how hard the opponent tried – the visitors scored their fifth goal, Alvis Jaunzems made it 5-0 with a very accurate shot from distance. Meanwhile, on the other side of the pitch, our goalkeeper didn’t have much work, but when he did, he had to get involved and show his abilities, and he demonstrated exactly that in the 67th minute when the home team went forward with two players against one defender, but the situation was neutralized by Rihards.

At the end of the game, however, our shutout was broken, two free kicks in a short time, and the second one was successful. In this situation, the defenders did not get to the second ball, and with a shot from close range followed, the Salaspils team scored their first and only goal in the match. The last word belonged to us – Luka Silagadze with a filigree shot from a standard situation put an end to the game and achieved the final result – 6:1.

We will play our next game on Saturday (12.11) when we will go to Liepaja to fight for the gold of the Optibet Virsliga in the final game of the season. Our opponent – FK Liepāja.
