It is not the end

29 October 2021

In fight for the Champions title, we played draw against Riga FC (1:1) in the postponed round of 21., while our opponents RFS came back from Daugavpils with a convincing win, thereby increasing the gap from Valmiera up to five points with two rounds left in the end the championship.

In the penultimate home game of the season against the reigning champions from Riga, we demonstrated a convincing performance in controlling game, but lacking in scoring, which would bring us such a much-needed victory and three points.

Riga scored its only goal of the game already in the 9 th minute, thanks to the individual performance of the youngster Arturs Krancmanis. Both teams exchanged equally dangerous moments at the sound of half-time, but both failed to score.

At the beginning of the second half-time, Valmiera levelled the score thanks to team captain Raimonds Krollis’s goal with his head after Alvis Jaunzems’ excellent cross from the right flank. The desire to grab a victory for Tamaz Pertia’s boys was great, but there was a lack of precision at the very end of the attack. At least five excellent opportunities to score were wasted in the last ten minutes of the game. Four of them belonged to Alioune Ndoye.

Such an outcome did not satisfy both opponents of this game, but while Valmiera is fighting for a Champions title, its current holders are only about to hope for the third place this year.

If we want to let our dream come true now, we need a self believe in the remaining two games of the season and the ability of RFS opponents – Riga FC and BFC Daugavpils to get a win. We’ll spend the last home game of our season this Sunday at 13.30 meeting with FK Metta at Valmiera Olympic Centre.
