11 September 2022

In the 28th round of the Optibet Virsliga, Valmiera FC beat Riga FC at home, Jana Dalina Stadium, with a result of 3:1.

No one on the square was ready to expect anything, which was immediately understandable. Already in the 2nd minute, a lattice and accurate pass by the goalkeeper Rihards Matrevics to Camilo Mena, who quickly broke into the penalty area and made the Riga FC goalkeeper Roberts Ozols capitulate for the first time in the game.

The guests felt that they would have to fight back and went forward. Several dangerous moments in front of Matrevics’ goal, but his teammates did a great job in defense. In a difficult situation in front of the goal, Roberts Veips saved the team from an apparent goal loss. Valmiera FC also had a challenging moment, but the result of the game did not change – 1:0 after the first 45 minutes.

The second half has already started actively again, with two sharp, dangerous attacks in a row, but we still had to wait until the second goal in the game. In the 56th minute of the game, the roof of the stands of the Jana Dalina stadium was “taken off”. The corner kick was executed by Ivan Zhelizko, and it was extended by Roman Yakuba, but the last word in the situation belonged to the team captain Raimonds Krollis, who headed the ball into the goal to make it 2:0.

Alvis Jaunzems scored the third goal for Valmiera FC. The goal was brewing for some time, but the player from Valmiera was not ready to throw the gun in the bushes – in the 74th minute, Jaunzems missed from a distance, however, in the next attack in a similar situation, he was precise, making it 3:0.

The Riga FC team managed to get one and only goal in the game At the very end of the match, in the 90th minute, Marcelo Torres successfully used a teammate’s cross in the penalty area to score an honorable goal and make the final score of the game 3:1.
