Following an Optibet Virsliga, 29th round win against FK Jurmalas Spartaks (6:1) Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns shared his comments and thoughts with the media.
Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns: ”A different game, as we have seen in the performance of the Valmiera team. Against an opponent that we like to dominate with the ball, today we chose to play a little differently. I believe that when we took a quick lead, one unfortunate goal let the Spartaks team back into the game for a while. The third goal put everything in place. In the very weak first half, we had to talk a little louder in the locker room during the halftime break. We were not satisfied with the content, with the actions in defense. Spartak footballers found a lot of passes between our lines, so they were able to create attacks. Today we wanted to work a little bit on defensive actions. This will be a good lesson, a very good analysis, we will be able to look and improve our game. Believe it or not, we can be the best and most efficient team on the field in this style of play. Quick transitions from one goal to another, intercepted balls in the middle of the pitch – quick transition in attack, Valmiera can be very strong there. Spartaks felt it on their own skin in a few episodes today. I believe that in the future against stronger opponents, this style of play, this model could be useful for us.”
