Jurgis Kalns: ”One goal was not enough”

13 May 2023

Following an Optibet Virsliga 12th-round draw against FK Auda (1:1) Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns shared his comments and thoughts with the media.

Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns: “A fighting game in which three points had to be won. All the prerequisites were there for those three points, the game showed it. It was supposed to happen. The goal was let in from a free-kick and the thread of the game disappeared a bit. In the first half, we controlled the events on the pitch. One goal was not enough, we have problems in attacking actions. I can see that if an opponent with a more compact, higher-class defense comes up, then our forwards have difficulties. We also found moments, we tried to play, and we also liked how the opponent tried to play. It’s very unfortunate that we didn’t manage to win, we went through it in the dressing room. We were confused about the last episode of the game, about the penalty kick. I told the guys that over there in the dressing room, the team is jumping, happy, but we will be higher in our lives because we are going through the things that have to be gone through.”
