Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns: ”Thank you to everyone who believed in us. Thanks to everyone who came, thanks, guys. We are not really aware of what we have done. In the beginning, the emotions were very good, but fatigue accumulated over the season. We went here, I already told the team that today many would like to be in our place – when everything is decided in the last round – to win here and today to prove that we deserve to become champions. That was our task and we did it, despite the fact that RFS was able to win their match as well, I was sure of their victory in the parallel duel. Seeing how Riga FC looks when playing against top teams, I was sure of the victory of RFS. Didn’t see that they could inseminate the RFS. Our game against RFS was a duel between the two best teams in the championship, but the table shows otherwise. I think that we ourselves do not realize what we did, what we have accomplished, and did not believe in what we can do, that Valmiera will be champions. I think that if someone said before the season that Valmiera would be champions, someone would laugh. That’s why I can take my hat off to all the dudes. People have tears in their eyes, I had tears in my eyes, I controlled myself, but it was visible in their eyes – they deserved it, they went for it, in spite of the obstacles when the turns were winding, there were better and worse times and we got over it together. Our players are different – different characters and approaches, but what succeeded for us – we made a whole out of it all. This is probably what Valmiera lacked before. We have a modern team that believes in each other, we trust each other and this is certainly one of the main fruits of the reason why Valmiera are champions.”
