Following Tonybet Virsliga’s 10th-round draw against FK Metta (1:1) Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns shared his comments and thoughts with the media.
Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns: “Congratulations to Metta on their anniversary. I would like to have birthdays like this every day, every game because the atmosphere was fantastic. Thanks to our Valmiera and Metta fans. Everything that happened around the field was very football-like, very beautiful, such emotions should be there. I think the game did not disappoint either. If we start talking about the game itself – I would understand that there is one game, like against Grobina, when the ball does not go into the goal. We make more than thirty shots and the ball doesn’t find its way into the goal, a failure somewhere, but it’s our fourth such occasion, it’s hard for me to say anything. We are ahead by a margin both in the shots made, the balls intercepted while pressing, and the crosses – we are up everywhere, but unfortunately this does not help us in the points column. If you can say that, we are in the points business, points have to be collected. Our team can see that in almost every game they have to think how to switch from attack to defense in order not to give the opponent a chance. We have difficulties, we are a team that is not easy, and creativity is not high, and for us to break such tight, compact low blocks, we have to do it every game. I believe that as a team we force opponents to play with us using the low block. We dominate, and it’s hard for me to blame the guys, they do everything, and they give their best, but the ball just doesn’t go, it doesn’t go into the goal. We’re a bit cursed because you have to score in games like this. Already in the 13th minute, Djibril Gueye’s episode – we had to score a goal, we have those in every game, but the ball is missed. The opponent was in our side of the field about six, seven, maybe eight times, twice in the penalty area, and one of those times – the scored goal. This is a reflection of our season and I am not saying this for the first time. I know that it is not so easy to accept these failures, but I believe that we are playing very good football, we make the opponent think only about defense and how to rebound, trying to run on counterattacks. It is a great merit of the work, but that goal will come and everything will be fine.”
