Jurgis Kalns: ”The whole season is still ahead”

6 April 2024

Following Tonybet Virsliga’s 4th-round loss against FK Auda (1:3) Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns shared his comments and thoughts with the media.

Valmiera FC coach Jurgis Kalns: “I congratulate Auda on their first win of the season, I congratulate their new coach on his first win in Latvia. Our game was weak today, I won’t say it was Auda’s merit, but instead our weak game. I knew, I felt, that after two games like the previous ones, a drop would come. I think there will be a similar game on Tuesday, where we will not be in our skin, I know this from my experience in the previous two seasons. That’s what happens to young guys and it’s only normal. In any case, at 0:2 we still hoped that we could equalize the game. In the first goal, the defenders did not work with the standard situation, we got the second one at the end of the half, and we got the third one, losing the ball in the middle in a completely unnecessary situation. As I said to the guys in the locker room – those nine boys who were on the pitch at the end, who attacked, pressed, I can take my hat off to them. Auda, with a two-man lead, was unable to create anything significant. We had three moments, three shots being two men down, we were happy for those last minutes of the game. I will also repeat what I said in the dressing room – if anyone was hoping that we would win all 36 games, it won’t happen. This is just the beginning and the whole season is still ahead, in a couple of days there is a game, so let’s move on.
