Following Tonybet Virsliga’s 5th-round draw against Grobinas SC/LFS (1:1) Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns shared his comments and thoughts with the media.
Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns: Thanks to the fans, they were fantastic. Although the score was 1:1, I think the game did not disappoint. I don’t remember the last time Valmiera fans here saw five goalposts, crossbars, and everything that happened there. If I’m not mistaken, we made around 36 shots, and 12 corners – a lot of moments, but the tie was only broken in the last minutes. Knowing how we’re going in waves, I told the guys that they can be proud, this is how we grow as a team, even a draw was possible and victory was also possible. We went forward, we wanted to win. Of course, if we realized the opportunities at the opponent’s goal in the first minutes, the game would have ended differently. Against these teams, you have to score goals and take advantage of every opportunity because not scoring gives the opponent confidence. They gnaw the ground. One shot, a cross, and a goal, we try to attack, moment by moment, the goalposts, for the opponent it is the confidence that something is on their side today. You fight, gnaw the ground for that one point, I’m glad we managed to win it.”
