Following an Optibet Virsliga, an 9th-round loss against Riga FC (0:3) Valmiera FC head coach Jurgis Kalns shared his comments and thoughts with the media.
The head coach of Valmiera FC, Jurģis Kalns: “First of all, I congratulate Riga on a convincing, honorably won victory. We are not ready for the speeds to compete without many core players, it is not so easy to replace them. There are players who are not ready for that speed, so the result is natural. Two fouls in the first half. We knew they had one center-forward who didn’t pose any danger. Episodes lost, duels lost and two goals conceded. In all duels, we were too slow and too late, without aggression, without opportunities to get into the game. When we got the ball under control, the opponent didn’t need anything anymore, both teams played the game to the end. Until the 57th minute, we believed one goal could change everything, but unfortunately, we did not get to the goal-scoring moments. It is difficult to play without central midfielders, Jaunzems and Tonisevs are not players for this position. It is difficult to build a game without players in this role, especially because the opponent is pressing hard, we had problems with that. We knew how Riga plays and expected it to happen. We understood that with a favorable result, they could rearrange, and we were also ready for that. They did not offer anything new. Unfortunately, Valmiera lost with three goals conceded in the VAR debut.”
