Raimonds Krollis has been recognized as the Sportland’s Best Young player for the third time in the running season of Optibet futbola Virsliga. This time, in a rather tough fight, Valmiera FC’s striker outperformed Lukas Vapne, who runs a bright season in the colors of FK Metta.
Since the 2015 season, the best young player in each round has been identified and saluted at the Virsliga. The candidates are nominated by the Board of Directors of the Latvian Football Federation (LFF), while the voting is made by the media and clubhead coaches. The most important criterion for receiving this award is the age limit, which means that the player must comply with the age category U-21.
At this time, LFF’s coaching board nominated five candidates for the title of third-round best young player: Renārs Varslavāns (RFS), Raimonds Krollis (Valmiera FC), Aleksejs Kudeļkins (BFC Daugavpils), Lukas Vapne (FK Metta), and Maksims Toņiševs (Valmiera FC).
In the journalists’ and coaches’ vote for the best young player in the third round, Raimonds Krollis gathered 62 points, while the second-place Vapne reached 53, followed by Valmiera’s wing-back Toņiševs (27), Kudeļkins (22) and Varslavāns (16). The 19-year-old striker has already scored nine goals this season and has made eight successful passes.
Round’s best young player receives a valuable gift from the leading sports store “Sportland”, which particularly supports the development of young athletes.
