Lack of luck returns

23 April 2024

Tonybet Virsliga’s 8th-round match between Valmiera FC and BFC Daugavpils gave more questions than answers. Another game in which the performance is commendable, but the result is painful, this time experiencing a loss of 0:1.

The first half is like a swing, here one attacks, and the other attacks, level in the number of shots, but only the opponent hits the ball into the framework. Already in the 2nd minute, Carlos Olses went to save the team, a dangerous shot followed, but the goalkeeper handled it perfectly. This was an obvious wake-up call.

As the teams fly from one end of the field to the other, the home team controls the ball – but that is not enough. In the 38th minute of the game, Olses saved again, even twice, as the ball still decided to hit Lukass Vapne, who gave the ball directly to Marek Miksto and the result of the game was open.

In the first half, we saw a lack of fire, in the second half, it was kindled a little, but Daugavpils’ fire extinguisher was up to par. Two dangerous chances at the beginning of the half – first, Djibril Gueye tried to hit the ball into the goal, followed by a classic of this season, the ball hit the crossbar.

Pressure, countless attacks, Vapne near the goal, this time not hitting from a distance, but quite a solid position in the penalty area. It is painful to see that the ball ends up in the hands of the opponent’s goalkeeper, here too the opportunity was wasted, it could have been better, more precisely.

The end of the story is also quite usual – Jason Bahamboula entered the game, and moments were also formed there. Renars Varslavans entered the field, with a decent return from the injury, as well as Niks Dusalijevs took the field and gave sharpness, but the result remained unchanged.

We will play our next game on Saturday when we face the local Tukums 2000/Telms team in Tukums.
