Minimal loss against Liepaja

5 September 2022

In the match of the 27th round of the Optibet Virsliga, at the Jānis Daliņa Stadium, Valmiera FC lost 0:1 to the FK Liepāja team led by Tamaz Pertija.

At the beginning of the match, both teams fought for control of the ball, but neither of them managed to take the initiative until the end, as the course of the match was very choppy. Several long pauses and sharpness on the field made itself felt. The first dangerous moment in the match for Raimonds Krollis – in the counterattack, Pape Yare Fall won the ball and made a cross, but Krollis shot over the goal.

Liepāja also had its moments, but nothing dangerous, Rihards Matrevics handled everything perfectly. The first half was punctuated by our threatening attack, both Djibril Gueye, Roman Yakuba, and Daisuke Yokota had their opportunities, but unsuccessfully and after halftime it was a goalless draw.

In the second half, we were more dangerous again, already in the opening Krollis sent the ball into the goal, but unsuccessfully, because the referee’s flag was raised. The attacks continued, this time on both sides. Neither team was able to realize their moments. In the 71st minute, after a corner kick by the visitors, there was a hassle, followed by two red cards for both Daniels Balodis and Liepaja’s Noa Toribio.

As both teams played with ten men, the game picked up the pace even more and the football became much more active, this time it worked in favor of the guests – in the 87th minute, a standard situation near our penalty area and the substitute Eduards Tiedenberg hit over the wall and past Matrevic, bringing a 0-1 loss to Valmiera.

Our next game will be played on Sunday (11.09) when we will host the Riga FC team at the Jana Dalina Stadium. The game starts at 14:00.
