In the 13th round of Optibet Virsliga at the Rigas Hanzas high school pitch, Valmiera FC managed to take home a convincing 3:0 victory against FK Metta.
The start of the game was rather careful without teams taking any risks. The ball control belonged to Valmiera FC while Metta scouted for potential counter-attack opportunities. Ten minutes in Djibril Gueye had Valmieras’s first real raid towards the net when he shot from a sharp angle. Shortly after an opportunity on the other side of the pitch when Rihards Matrevics seemed to be beaten, but the ball still didn’t enter the net.
After the first alarm bells, Valmiera FC captain Raimonds Krollis had his word to say – once again Gueye from an angle towards the net, but this time Krollis was in front of the net and did enough to re-direct the ball past the opposing goalie for 1:0. After the goal, things calmed down and you could watch more battles in the middle zone of the pitch.
The game tempo wasn’t the highest but we still managed to use our opportunities. In the 41st minute of the game, the score became 2:0. Roman Yakuba sent a sharp pass towards Emils Birka who decided to shoot – that was blocked and the ball all of a sudden was with Gueye who made no mistake and scored an important goal meaning that Valmiera would have a two-goal lead after the first forty-five minutes.
The second half began with Kristers Penkevics making his Valmiera FC debut in an official match, he replaced Daniels Balodis. The thread of the game didn’t differ much from what was seen the first time.
Metta defended desperately forcing Valmiera’s players to fall – first down went Jokota and it happened in the penalty area – no whistle there. The next attacking chance and this time down went Luka Silagadze – he was tripped and now an 11-meter penalty was finally awarded. Unfortunately, Krollis couldn’t get that one in as the goalkeeper appeared to have been better.
The third and final goal of the game was scored in the 84th minute – Silagadze found Daisuke Yokota near the penalty area, the Japanese player wasted no time shooting the ball forcing a ricochet and using a mistake of the goalie to triple the lead and reach the end result of 3:0.
Our next game will be played on Friday (20.05) when at the Jana Dalina Stadium we will host the FK Auda team. Start of the game at 18:00.
