Five players of Valmiera FC have returned from the Latvian national team, for which they end up third in this year’s Baltic Cup. In the semi-final game they lost to Lithuania (0:2), following the bronze game where national team of Faroe Islands was beaten 1:0. Both games took place at the “Daugava” stadium in Liepāja.
Lukass Vapne, the debutant of the national team, started both games in the starting line-up, played full game against lithuanians and was replaced in the 46th minute of the game against Faroe Islands. His teammate Emīls Birka played the final 40 minutes of the game against the Lithuanians in his debut for the Latvian national team. Renārs Varslavāns came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute in first game and was in the starting lineup against the Faroe Islands, appeared in the only goal and was only replaced in the 80th minute. Maksims Toņiševs got involved in the second game, coming on the field as a substitute in the 80th minute. Our captain Daniel Balodis was left without playing minutes this time.
Jason Bahamboula made his debut in an official game as part of his Congolese national team – in the World Cup qualifier against Morocco (0:6), he came on as a substitute in the 66th minute. The first match against Niger, within this international window, was not played due to organizational reasons of the parties involved.
