Plenty of cards and the first loss of the season

6 April 2024

Mezaparks Sports Village – FK Auda against Valmiera FC. A game that lacked quality in many aspects brought the first loss of the season – 1:3.

The game’s introduction belonged to the home team – it must be said that only the balls are in control. In the first situation at the opponent’s goal, Djibril Gaye’s shot was blocked, and there were a couple more micro-meetings in the opponent’s penalty area. Then a long poke around the center of the pitch with the ball going to both sides of the pitch.

It was quite painful to allow a goal, Daniels Balodis received a yellow patch when stopping a potentially dangerous chance, giving the opponent a free-kick. There, although a visual offside, a long VAR review, nevertheless – a goal after a cross. In the remaining time, Auda had more fun with the ball, and Carlos Olses and his defensive bastion had to work.

The 37th minute of the game seems to be an obvious foul, Gay gets a kick in the head, but neither the referee nor the VAR can give a foul in the back position, so the following actions within the rules are unimportant. The second half was marked by another goal from Auda, where it was impossible to get a save after a communication error.

For the second half, Gustavo left the pitch, giving way to the French Jeremy Porsan-Clemente. His performance created threats in the penalty area. As the half continued, after a counter-attack, we got to the corner – Vapne’s cross and Daniels Balodis rose in the wings, headed the ball and the difference in the result was reduced.

We happily felt as if we were back in the game, but a cold shower after a foul outside our penalty area. The long shot pierced Carlos’s fortress, it restored the two-goal advantage to the opponent. The problem started at that moment – first Niks Sliede was expelled from the game, then several warnings for multiple players, and Alioune Ndoye went to the dressing room prematurely after the second yellow card.

Remaining with nine men, we did what we could, but it was not enough. Feeling the bitterness of a loss for the first time this season.

We will play our next game already on Tuesday (09.04), when we will host the Grobiņa SC/LFS team at the Valmiera Olympic Center stadium
