The 15th round of the Tonybet Virsliga took the Valmiera FC team to the windy city of Liepaja for the second time this week. Unlike before, there was a fight with a well-known opponent – FK Liepaja. A lot was decided in the first half of the game, while an important end for a 3-0 victory was made in the second half.
In the first moments, it might have seemed that the home team would be the one to take the ball under control, but instantly the scales turned upside down. Unsuccessful attacks, but then several good passes and Emils Birka at the penalty area. His pass found Jeremy Porsan-Clemente, who tripped in the penalty area but he delivered the ball to Lukass Vapne. Our midfielder calmed the ball and hit it into the goal – the goalkeeper caught it, but it slipped out of his hands.
After the goal, there were no changes – the visitors were still furious on the field, forcing Liepaja to make mistakes. An interception in our half and a long pass to Jeremy, who was already on the run. All that remained was to process the ball, remove the defender from the way, and send the ball into the goal – 2:0. A few minutes later, another twist, Moustapha Diaw received his second yellow card of the game and was sent off.
In the remaining minutes, there were more pretty attacks, but after half-time, it was established that the opponent did not hit our goal once. We went to rest with confidence, which was very useful, because the weather was quite hot in Liepaja, and the fact that the game was played on an artificial field was also an important factor.
There were no changes in the second half, but those on the pitch immediately settled the game’s end result. Already in the first attack, the ball was delivered to Djibril Gueye after a mistake by the defender. Djib caught the ball behind his back and immediately sent it to the recipient – the goal net. After the scored goals, the tempo of the game gradually dropped, which opened up opportunities for the Liepāja team. Davis Oss neutralized the only dangerous moment. At the end of the game, several substitutions for both units and the game was brought to a logical outcome. Three points travel to Valmiera.
We will play our next game on Tuesday (28.05) when the FS Jelgava team will visit Jānis Daliņa Stadium. The game starts at 18:00.
