Seventh win in a row

22 June 2024

Valmiera FC started the third round of the Tonybet Virsliga with a 3-0 victory over FK Metta, thus continuing the winning streak, extending it to seven.

Compared to the previous games, the men of coach Gatis Kalniņš did not have a stormy start against Metta – the opponents defended much harder, and it needed half an hour to unlock the visitors’ goal.

Alioune Ndoye scored another goal in the 36th minute after a pass by Maksims Toņiševs with an elegant touch to the ball, three minutes later his shot was block, but with a repeated kick by Lūkass Vapne the ball crossed the goal line for the second time. Owned by Metta, but currently rented to Valmiera Vapne did not expressed his goal celebrations at all.

In the second half, the game was shifted to Valmiera’s side of the pitch for a longer period of time, with Metta’s players controlling the ball more. However, Dāvis Ošs in the goal and the overall game in defense were at a level, preventing Andris Rihert’s men from achieving anything tangible.

It was Ndoye who scored his second goal in the 81st minute, again after a good cross from Toņiševs from his right flank.

Due to the disqualification of Andriy Korobenko, the defensive midfielder position was entrusted to Kristers Penkevics in this game, for whom it was the first appearance in the starting eleven after a two-year break filled with recovery from health problems.

In the next round of the tournament, the team faces the test of the current champions – a match against RFS in LNK Sporta Parks on the evening of June 26 – 20:00.
