In the 16th round match of the Optibet Virsliga, the Valmiera FC team beat FK Liepāja footballers 3: 1 in a match full of emotions in the stadium “Daugava”.
The match was intense and things showed already early on as many battles commenced. That, in the beginning, played a good role for the home team as after our defensive error Lucas Villela opened up the scoring.
In the 24th minute of the game after a quick counter and cross by Maksims Tonisevs, a dangerous situation occurred on the offensive end where the ball flew close to the net, and our captain Raimonds Krollis was perfect rushing in to get the ball into the net and reaching a tie, 1:1.
Both teams kept exchanging scoring chances, however once again Valmiera FC had the upper hand – a free-kick was awarded from a 22-meter distance and Ivan Zhelizko seized the opportunity kicking the ball straight to the net and past the goalkeeper, which gave us a lead after the first half.
In the second half, we took the charge fully creating many scoring chances, especially for both Daisuke Yokota and Camilo Mena those were plenty. Emotions were raised minute by minute until Ivan Zhelizko once again created a perfect sequence leaving the ball in the penalty area to Emils Birka, who with a strong pass found Djibril Gueye, who put an end to the match, making it 3:1 after the ball was sent into an empty side of the goal.
Now the Virsliga tournament heads into an international break. Our next game is scheduled for the 18th of June when we will host the SK Super Nova team at Janis Dalins stadium.
