Three points stolen from RFS

3 September 2023

Another day, another Optibet Virsliga game. This time Valmiera FC hosted FK RFS at Jana Dalina Stadium. This time around one goal was plenty enough for three points in the standings for Valmiera FC.

Jurgis Kalns for this game was forced to make changes – Leo Gaucho, Daniels Balodis, and Alioune Ndoye were unavailable. Instead, Tiago made his starting 11 debut, while Ruan Ribeiro drew in to play up-front.

From the opening minutes, the game was forceful and aggressive with both teams running up and down the pitch. RFS managed to excel first – a pass from Arturs Zjuzins to Ismael who sent the ball into the goal. Luckily the referee had VAR assistance and the event was deemed illegal due to offside.

Literally, the next attack and the ball found its way to the net. This time around there was a play from a throw-in in which ballboy, Pape Yare Fall and Meissa Diop swiftly delivered the ball to Ruan, who elected to go for a header and that gave his team a deciding 1:0 lead.

RFS then switched things up and started to attack more aggressively than before. Klavs Lauva had to stand on his head, the defenders had plenty of work as well to keep the score in favor of Valmiera.

In the second half, nothing changed – both sides had their moments but nothing else was being scored. After a battle, the final whistle blew and it was clear as a day – Valmiera FC had beaten one of the two football greats with a score of 1:0.

Our next game will be played in two weeks’ time when the team will be traveling to windy city and play against FK Liepaja.
