20-year-old Latvian midfielder Lukass Vapne is the first addition of Valmiera FC for the upcoming 2024 Optibet Virsliga season.
Lukass has returned to Valmiera on a one-year loan deal with an option to buy from FS Metta.
The midfielder has played in 107 Virsliga games, representing both Metta and Valmiera clubs. The youngster has collected a total of 7570 minutes on the pitch. 97 games with Metta and 10 with Valmiera FC respectively. During the 2022 season Vapne became Latvian champion with Valmiera. The player has totaled 19 goals in his career so far.
Lukass has been an active representative of youth national teams representing U17, U19 and now U21 squads. In total he has made 23 appearances whilst scoring three goals.
Lukass Vapne: “It’s a great feeling to return to Valmiera, especially because people wanted me to be here. I spent only a couple of months here during the 2022 season but I felt that there is something here. After talking to coach Jurgis Kalns and following his words that Valmiera stands above everything I realized that this is the place where I want to be. There are a few new players but I feel like I’m part of the group already. We have seen each other on the pitch as teammates or opponents. The atmosphere hasn’t changed that much. There are players here that have been here for a while and that gives me that feeling of being at home, same applies to the coaching staff. As for my goals – I want to make our fans happy by giving them the best results and victories. We all know that there is an item missing in Valmiera and we will do our best to return it where it belongs.”
